Coffee Ratio Converter

Short answer: g/L is already a mass ratio. Water weighs 1 g per ml at room temperature, so Hoffmann's 60 g/L is 60 g of coffee per 1000 g of water, which is 1:16.7. This converter does the division, gives you the dose for your batch size, and handles the one case where volume and mass genuinely differ: hot water.

Converting a volume recipe (ml to g)

At room temperature 1 ml of water is 1 g within 0.2%, so you can read ml as grams. Hot water is about 4% lighter per ml; this matters only if you measure hot water by volume instead of weighing it.

The three ways recipes quote strength

A mass ratio (1:16.7) relates coffee to water directly. Grams per litre (60 g/L) says the same thing anchored to a fixed water quantity, which makes batch math trivial: half a litre takes half the coffee. Volume quotes (200 ml of water) are mass quotes in disguise at room temperature. All three describe the same cup.

The g/L habit comes from cupping.
